The rain that fell over the Labor Day weekend brought much relief to the grass and cattle. The pastures responded with a carpet of green grass which we hadn't seen in a while.
On Monday, September 13, I noticed that the Tifton hillside was turning yellow; I thought it was just the angle of the sun. By Tuesday, the field had turned a golden brown. Armyworms!
Regiments of armyworms converged on our pastures and those of our neighbors, as they did last year.
I spent most of yesterday spraying our East and West Pastures with a spray rig borrowed from our neighbors, Richard and Marsha Rhodes, of Broken Oak Farms.
