Need Hay

.
Due to the extended cold and wet weather, our winter pasture (the crimson clover and rye grass that we planted last October) has been slow in coming up. We will need to put out hay for Brian's cattle longer than we expected.

Round bales are very expensive these days, so we decided to buy 8-foot long square bales of prairie hay instead from Jim Russell Hay & Sprig Farm (www.jimrussellfarm.com). Here's a load that Jim and I loaded onto his trailer yesterday and brought back to the farm.
..
Square bales are not as easy to insert into the 4-foot hay racks that we have on the pastures. But Brian's heifers loved the new hay! Here's a group of them mobbing one of the bales.
