DeWalt has been Phil's dog for a long time, and Phil has been training him to become a valuable member of the Aurora Farm staff. Phil wrote on his log for November 6, 2009:

"DeWalt did real well yesterday and today, he was out in the field with me, no leash, walking along beside the mule. In and around the cows without a single contentious incident. Comes when called, doesn't seem to want to ride in the mule, just walk/run alongside. Did real well with his self feeder, and has a house assembled, and set up. One lucky dog!"
